The Charles Doll Award
The Charles Doll Award is given to the outstanding graduating senior(s) in geology. Charles Doll was the state geologist and began teaching full time at UVM in 1927. He was Chairman of the Department of Geology from 1946 until his retirement in 1964. He also produced the first state bedrock geologic map. The selection criteria for the Doll Award are based on a combination of overall grade point average, grade point average in geology, undergraduate research, and service to the department. The recipient of this award receives a gift and their name is engraved on a plaque that hangs in the department seminar room. The list of Doll Award winners is a distinguished one and includes individuals who have gone on to significant professional achievements.

John Sawyer Shaw Receives Peter Seybolt Academic Award
John Sawyer Shaw received the Peter Seybolt Academic Award at the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Ceremony May 17, 2019. This award was named for the founder of UVM's Department of Asian Languages and Literatures Professor Peter Seybolt. It is given to the top graduating seniors who major in an Asian language based on their academic performances.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences Department of Nursing inducted students into the Kappa Tau Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society on April 24, 2019. To receive this honor, students must have completed at least half of the nursing curriculum with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher; rank in the top 35% of their graduating class; and meet expectations of academic integrity.

Commencement 2019
The Class of 2019 graduated on Sunday, May 26, in a ceremony concluding the College's 207th year. Freeman Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, delivered the Commencement address, advising graduates to "keep asking the hard questions and keep thinking of things we've not thought about - about social justice and inequality and seeking the truth." Hamilton's 490 graduates now join an alumni body of more than 23,000, many of whom have made important contributions to business, the professions, government and the arts.

Some 3,275 students were awarded degrees during the University of Vermont's 218th commencement ceremonies. Darren Walker who presides over the Ford Foundation, one of the world's most influential social justice philanthropies and one of the largest private foundations in the United States, delivered the address.
